Check three things before using the bottle again: where it was sold, whether it is scented, and the date code printed on its side. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says about 6.3 million scented Mistolin and Lestoil cleaners sold in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands may contain bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The quick match test
- Sales region: Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Product: a scented Mistolin Dilutable Cleaner or scented Lestoil Heavy Duty Multi-Purpose Cleaner.
- Date code: starts with PR01, followed by a number from 25091 through 26168.
All three conditions must match. CPSC says unscented products are not included.
Which scents and sizes are included?
The recall lists nine Mistolin scents: Alegra tu Día, Espíritu Play, Flores de Primavera, Fresco Despertar, Frescura de Lavanda, Frescura Tropical, Manzana y Canela, Pino y Especias, and Sólo para Ti. It also lists four Lestoil scents: Energía del Yunque, Fuerza de Lavanda Tropical, Intenso Limon Boricua, and Olas de Rincón.
Affected products were sold in 28-, 40-, 64-, and 128-fluid-ounce bottles. Bottle size alone does not establish a match; use the date code.
What to do with a matching bottle
- Stop using it immediately. Keep the container closed.
- Photograph the 12-digit UPC on the label and the PR01 date code on the side of the bottle.
- Register through the official recall portal. The refund process asks for both photos.
- Dispose of the product in its container with household trash, following CPSC's instructions. Do not pour it into a drain or transfer it to another bottle.
- Keep your submission confirmation. A receipt can support the purchase-price refund; CPSC says consumers without one can receive the manufacturer's suggested retail price.
Why this recall matters
CPSC says the products may contain Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an organism found widely in soil and water. Exposure can occur through inhalation, the eyes, or broken skin. People with weakened immune systems or external medical devices face the greatest risk of a serious infection requiring treatment; CPSC says healthy immune systems are usually not affected. No incidents or injuries were reported in the recall notice.
Where and when the products were sold
The cleaners were sold from April 2025 through June 2026 at Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco, Supermercados Econo, Supermercados Selecto, and other major retailers in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, typically for $1.40 to $8. The recall number is 26-741.
The practical bottom line
Do not identify the recall by bottle color or brand alone. A product is in scope only when its region, scented variety, and PR01 code range match. Photograph a match before disposal, use the official refund portal, and avoid opening or diluting the cleaner to inspect it.
